This week we add the fifth chapter of Dave Ortega’s outstanding series, Dias De Consuelo to the catalog. This is a series we think about often, and pine for a new issue. Our hunger has been satiated for a moment, but as soon as we’re done reading an issue we start hoping for a speedy arrival of the next issue.
After moving to a new town, Consuelo’s family has fallen into a rhythm of daily life. In this issue we get to laugh with the family’s joy, and cry with their heartbreak.
Dave will be at Sõl-Con and Cartoon Crossroads Columbus [CXC] this weekend in Columbus, Ohio! This festival weekend is truly remarkable as it stretches well into the preceding week days. Ohio State University will host the first few days of Sõl-Con, the Black & Brown Comics Expo at Hale Hall. Programming is designed to inspire high school students from the region to tell their own stories, but attendees of all ages will get something out of visiting the expo! CXC will feature demonstrations and conversations on at the Billy Ireland Collection, as well as screenings and larger programming events at the Wexner Center. Saturday and Sunday sees the two festivals merge at the Metropolitan Library downtown, as well as some pre- and post- festival programming at the Columbus College of Art and Design and The Columbus Museum of Art! The programming is extensive and can be viewed on the CXC schedule page.
We’ll be attending a ton of the early programming (including Special Guest, Jessica Campbell interviewing Lynn Johnston, author of one of our favorite newspaper strips For Better of For Worse)! We’ll then clock in, and table at the book fair at the library on Saturday and Sunday at table 18, hosting Vicko Alvarez! Also tabling will be Aaron Renier, Cara Bean, Dave Ortega, Georgia Webber, Iona Fox, Jessica Campbell, John Porcellino, Keiler Roberts, Kevin Czap, Leila Abdelrazaq, Mike Freiheit, Neil Brideau Penina Gal, and Whit Taylor! CXC and Sõl-Con are FREE! See you there!
