Description
It’s senior year in college, and art majors Helen and Clayton have been assigned a studio together. One catch though…Clayton hasn’t signed up for any sort of housing, so Helen agrees to let him live in their shared studio space. Back of the Knee tells the story of a friendship pushed to its limits, of depression and uncertainty.
Julia Gootzeit tells this story that -while fiction- feels all too real through a painted comic, which plays off the themes of studying art in college. Both Julia’s writing and cartooning style mixed with the paint walks a fine line between cartoony and naturalistic, and perfectly captures difficult roommate and friend relationships.
