Heart Farts is a collection of autobiographical comic essays that reflect on life, companionship, and purpose.

Cara Bean’s comics move from silly -dreams her mom has had about New England Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady- to somber -how scattering the ashes of a friend’s dog forces her to confront with the passing of her own dog a few years before. In the middle of the anthology (and in the middle of the mood-spectrum), Cara makes a comic for her students, encouraging them to adopt a philosophy of work-flow to make them enjoy and value her art class. Rebecca Viola writes (and her husband, Jason draws) comics about how easy it is to hide behind your profession as a reason for being, how making bento box lunches for Jason’s coworkers is a way of connecting, and meditations on how cats totally have it figured out. Each comic is funny and insightful at the same time!

This three-person anthology is like Rebecca’s bento box, a creative collection of enjoyable short comics of varying moods and flavors. Most of these stories are specific examples of relatable larger themes: the balance between work and life, the balance within work and passions, companionship, loss, and connecting with others.
