Written by Kate Brideau while working on her dissertation, Everything Quantizes No. 1 takes its name from the argument by Vilém Flusser that everything in the world stutters & clicks. Kate’s collection of essays focus on our relationship with typography. She investigates the visible invisibility of the letters we read, whether they have their own lives beyond that as vessels for ideas, and whether they possess a sort of autonomy from their creators.
Kate’s writings are remarkably accessible for academic writings, welcoming us to think about complex ideas. It’s appropriate then that these writings are found in the format of a zine. Her writing is ambitious too, each essay last only a couple pages, but I’m sure each could take up volumes of discussion on how we perceive language, its vehicles, and all of the built world around us.
