Description

How Things Are Done captures Issy Manley’s life in the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working as a server, there were already hierarchies and practices at her restaurant that made Issy uncomfortable. When restaurants shut down to in-person dining and resorted to pick-up and delivery, the disparities at Issy’s workplace were exacerbated.

This comic dives deep into both the widening gap of privilege between those who could work from home and those who were forced to continue to work in public when our knowledge of the virus was inconsistent, and often wrong. Issy also explores how co-workers helped each other out when their bosses and government fell short. A useful snapshot of the pandemic’s human and economic toll, and the need for equitable labor practices.
