Hey Chicago, CAKE (the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo) is right around the corner! It’s June 11 & 12! We’ll be there! It’s free, so we hope you’ll be there too! More info here:
Isabella Rotman joins the Radiator family this week with not one or two but SIX amazing comics and zines, that cover topics from safe sex to animal sex to eating things you find growing in the ground! Isabella’s line work and writing are both quite precise and whimsical at the same time. This leads to tons of fun on the page & a little bit of info to boot!
If you want to impress your friends with some of the weirdest facts about animal reproduction, or if you want to make sure you’re protecting yourself and your partner when you’re acting out those facts, Isabella’s comics are the way to go! And who can argue with her amazing sense of design?!
The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo has announced the inaugural Cupcake Award, which will be given to a self-publisher to help them make a minicomic for next year’s CAKE! Read on from CAKE’s own announcement:
Self-publishing is at the heart of our event and community, and supporting emerging artists and helping them grow is central to our mission. The Cupcake Award is a juried prize that supports the self-publishing of a new minicomic by any artist who has not yet had a solo work printed by a publisher. The winner of the award will receive $250 to print a new minicomic, a free half table at next year’s CAKE (where their minicomic will debut), and the mentor support of our special guest judge Annie Koyama. In addition, CAKE will promote the winning artist and their minicomic leading up to next year’s show.
