Cathy Hannah is constantly creating new work. She draws an illustration everyday! She also keeps a comic diary (from which she posts a single panel each day as well). Now you can read her diary entries from March 1 through May 31 of this year! Cathy is unflinching in her publishing of what is going on in her life, the good and the bad. Her honesty and openness allows us to really connect with her emotionally, and reflect on our own lives.
So what are you waiting for?! Pick up this awesome collection!
We also have a limited number of Cathy’s gorgeous, powerful and unapologetic postcards, totally worth grabbing to send a message to your best friend, or to let your boss know you quit.
Powerful new comics is the name of the game this week, as we add Cathy Hannah’s concluding volume of her series Alas, and her brand new minicomic, Uglyfat.
Alas vol 6 culminates Cathy’s investigation of feeling like she’s falling short of being a successful adult. While we can’t say it has a happy ending, it does conclude by putting things into perspective, showing us that even the family members against whom Cathy compares herself feel they don’t hold a candle to those they idealize.
Uglyfat is an unflinching chronicle of living with an eating disorder, and how we are all victims and perpetrators of society’s perceptions on beauty and worth. Rather than making conclusions, Cathy starts a conversation that you will carry on long after you have finished reading this minicomic.
We’re honored and proud to carry Cathy’s comics! We feel like she’s saying some really important stuff in a really accessible language. We recommend you also check out her awesome drawings on facebook!
This week we add two very different publications, both from the super-talented Melissa Mendes!
Can’t Lose, is a fanzine Melissa put together for her and her friends to profess their love for the television show, Friday Night Lights. It’s a fun collective love-letter to the high school football drama, featuring everything from speculative fiction to a scrap book of RJ Casey’s FNL-themed wedding proposal.
The Weight is a depression-era story based on the childhood of Melissa’s grandfather, Jack. We’re honored to be carrying the first chapter of what promises to be Melissa’s biggest and most impressive project to date. The Weight is full of the small patient detail that makes Melissa’s Freddy Stories so endearing. You can read it online as she is drawing it at http://www.mmmendes.com/partone/, and you can support her directly by giving to her Patreon account.
