What is Radiator Comics Studio?

Radiator Comics Studio a series of programming and publications dedicated to supporting and growing the cartooning community in South Florida. Our mission is to empower and encourage anyone with the desire to express themselves through the medium of sequential art to build the resources they need to achieve their goals.

Our programming is presented live via Zoom, and then saved on our YouTube channel.

Cartoonist Coffee

Our monthly Sunday social event for cartoonists! We use Zoom’s breakout room function to split participants into small groups for 15-minute open-ended conversations. Attendees can expect to paricipate in roughly five conversations over the course of the event. You’re encouraged to bring a beverage of your choice for the event!

Open Studio

Every Friday from 4:00 – 6:00pm EDT dedicate time to working on comics in this drop-in work session. The two hour program is broken up into four 20-minute silent work periods starting at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, and 5:30pm, with 10-minute breaks in between to stand up, stretch, grab water, and to socialize.
Open Studio sessions will not be recorded.

Spiny Orb Weaver

Spiny Orb Weaver is a comic arts journal highlighting cartooning in South Florida! For each issue, we commission a local cartoonist to draw a new comic. The comic is followed by an interview between the artist and Spiny Orb Weaver editor, Neil Brideau. Back pages are devoted to comics and essays by people who lived in Miami but now live somewhere else.

Issue 1 (January 2021) features Miss Jaws with a comic about social anxiety, and connecting with your neighborhood. Back up pages by Tana Oshima explore paradise in Miami.

Radiator Comics teamed up with Black Josei Press to publish Sun and Sand Comic Anthology, a free showcase of ten comics by South Florida cartoonists. Sun and Sand can be read digitally online or on a PDF, or request a physical copy (while supplies last) at https://sunsandcomics.wordpress.com.
