Andrea Tsurumi is an illustrator and cartoonist from who likes absurdity, history, dogs and monsters (in no particular order). Her comic, Andrew Jackson Throws a Punch received a MoCCA Award of Excellence in 2013 and Dance Party was included in the 2013 Best American Comics notables list. Her comics have been published in The Graphic Canon of Children’s Literature (Seven Stories Press), Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream (Locust Moon Press), Quarter Moon (Locust Moon Press), The Nib, The Brooklyn Rail, and Suspect Device, among others. Along with fellow illustrator, Maëlle Doliveux, she creates The Sexy, a weekly parody pinup calendar. After graduating from SVA with an Illustration MFA, she draws illustrations and picture books in New York City.
Andrea’s comics are strange and emotive. Eschewing narratives, her work focuses more on creating a feeling in a specific time and place. Her strange worlds seem effortlessly rendered with flowing lines and experimental images.
