Jeff Zwirek’s comics work includes Jack Rabbit, Black Star, Pinstriped Bloodbath, and Burning Building Comix. He has received a nomination for an Ignatz award, and his comics have been named “Notable Comics” multiple times by the Best American Comics anthology. He also helped to create and continues to organize CAKE, The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo. He lives and works in Chicago, with his wife, daughter, and two sons.
Jeff takes his drawing styles from the deep history of comic and animation short-hand. His drawings are the platonic cartoon character who could easily walk into a scene with Walt & Skeezix, the Simpsons, or Love and Rockets. Jeff’s stories are sincere tales of finding joy despite our modern world’s constant beating down of our souls. While most comics artists stop at strong story telling and fine-tuned artistic style, Jeff takes his work one step further by often experimenting with form and bookbiding, often forcing readers to bend, unfold, or even hold his comics upside-down in order to read them. Jeff is one of alternative comics foremost “paper scientists,” and worth the attention.
