Marta Syrup (she/they) is a comic artist originally from Poland now based out of Philadelphia, PA. She got her start as a comic artist back in 2013 drawing weekly comics for the Philadelphia Secret Admirer, a now-shuttered alt weekly. She caught the comic bug this way, and after she burned out as a social worker in 2017, she knew she needed to draw comics in a more intentional way again. Since then, they have been drawing autobiographical and fictional comics in various capacities, telling stories with their unique blend of heart, humor, and honesty. She has self-published three comic books with plans for more in the near future, and has received awards for her work, including Creative Philadelphia’s Illuminate the Arts Grant in 2021 and 2022. She is also a self-taught tattoo artist, taking clients from her home studio. They live in West Philly with their cat Gus and their many houseplants.
