Description
Carmen Ribaudo’s Cloud Comic is a poetic, innovative, and delightful comic that explores meteorological mythology and gender expression! Readers open and close flaps of this accordion-fold zine to learn about a cloud who decides to become a girl, how the self-containment of a human form could feel liberating to a cloud, and how outside perception could feel constricting.
Carmen created this comic as part of a fellowship at Providence Public Library, where she made work in response to an exhibition, Tomboy. Reading books from the 1800’s with inventive ideas about the weather led to Carmen exploring the idea of a girl who had the power of nature’s forces!
Cloud Comic was printed at Binch Press/Queer.Archive.Work, and has a companion film, We Are Full. Carmen worked with collaborator, Kate Hao, to develop a digital reading list to complement the library’s exhibition.
