Description

Nicole J. Georges and Greg (aka Clutch) Means have been friends for a long time, and for several years have joined forces creating an annual diary-comic split-mini. Clutch and Nicole pick a month and draw diary comics about their days. Since they’re pals, and they live in the same city, sometimes their tales converge. Liz Prince -also a friend of Nicole and Clutch- employed a similar device over three issues of a split comic, called Four-Squares (with Maris Wicks, Joe Quinones, and Tim Finn all of Boston, Mass). When Liz drew comics for a fourth-and-final issue of Four-Squares, only to find the project fold, and spent a considerable amount of time with Nicole, a plan was hatched to include Liz in the most recent iteration of the Invincible Summer/Clutch split. Enough back story? Good, let’s talk about the actual comic!

Liz Prince starts off this issue with a whole month of daily comics in which she suffers from a concussion, finally sees her boyfriend’s band play, and travels all over the place, sometimes with Nicole J. Georges! Speaking of Nicole…Act 2: Nicole & Liz’s Excellent Adventure (or Bogus Journey) 2015! Liz and Nicole co-draw their adventures as they take Nicole’s blind dog, Ponyo in for surgery, have their car break down, scam AAA, and go on some fun road-trip adventures! Tired yet? TOO BAD! The third portion of this comic is Nicole’s solo diary comics all about romance anxiety, pet ownership anxiety, and some good ol’ fashioned housework while blaring Le Tigre (of course)! But wait there’s more! Clutch comes out of “split-comics retirement” to draw two pages (not enough!) of his great diary comics, in which he exhibits at MoCCA, goes to a talk and signing by Jillian Tamaki, and is stared at by a bird covered in crumbs while waiting for the bus.

Savor it, friends, and hope for another split next year!
