Description
The Cranklet’s Chronicle is Ellen Lindner’s comic/zine about how women and non-binary people have shaped baseball and the United States. This issue focuses on Effa Manley, the only woman to be inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Manley and her husband Abe founded the Newark Eagles, a team in the Negro National League, eventually putting together one of the best teams that ever played.
An informative and compelling comic, Cranklet’s Chronicle No. 2 tells how Manley asserted herself in a male-dominated sport. Ellen’s comic doesn’t shy away from confronting baseball’s racist past, and how even when the white leagues integrated, it was on the white supremacist terms of the major league owners and managers. The back cover features an interview with a data scientist who’s also a big Giants fan.
