Description

In The Night Disco Died, Leda Zawacki illustrates an interview with Mari Navarro, who witnessed reports about the infamous “Disco Demolition” riot as a child. A baseball game promotion by the Chicago White Sox gone wrong, the riot revealed a lot about white supremacy and its backlash to an inclusive genre like Disco.

Peeling back the knee-jerk reaction of “Disco sucks,” Mari and Leda investigate the legacy of the riot, and of Disco’s brief but brilliant time as a cultural touchstone for people usually excluded from Rock.
