John Porcellino wasn’t the first person to make a minicomic, but he eptiomizes the spirit of what makes hand-made selfpublished comics great! John has been making his minicomic series, King-Cat Comics & Stories since 1989, and he’s still going strong!
Many people use minicomics as a stepping stone to getting picked up by a publisher, and while collections of his minis have been put out by companies like LaMano and Drawn & Quarterly, John still self-publishes King-Cat clearly for the love of the medium!
John’s comics are deceptively simple in presentation, but they are full of humor, pathos and reflection. In King-Cat’s pages lie a simultaneous silent still beauty and an uncontainable energy. John is a real hero and inspiration to minicomicers like me.
John also runs the distro, Spit & A Half, which is an amazing source for alternative comics. John encouraged me to start Radiator Comics & helped me out a lot as I got going.
