Description
Boodle Fight by Ashley Topacio collects short comics about food, heritage, family, and race in the United States. As a mixed-race Filipino American, many of her comics in Boodle Fight capture specific memories tied to the food of her family: an omelette from her Lola, a socially disastrous incident with tamarind candies at school! Other comics dive deeper into identity, community, and systemic racism.
Each comic layers atop the previous one, painting a complicated portrait that Ashley bravely shares through personal stories, and smart observations. Ashley uses many different styles, media, and structures throughout the book, and structures it to tell a single cohesive story centered around love.
