Description
Dave Ortega’s grandmother, Consuelo Castañon Herrera was born during the Mexican Revolution. In Dias De Consuelo, Dave tells her family’s story.
In this issue, a few months after the events of issue 4, we witness Consuelo’s life, waking up early to do laundry and cook breakfast, then off to school while her mother tailors clothes, and her abuela watches Consuelo’s younger sister Tichi. At lunch time, Consuelo returns home to serve her family food, and to do chores, then back to school, including art class, where she excells. There are threats to this simple life, the war continues, her mother is sick, and the family can not shake Consuelo’s abuela’s deteriorating health.
Don’t blink, this issue goes by in a flash as it dives deep in the small details of Consuelo’s day. This issue feels quieter, but is punctuated by the biggest event in Consuelo’s early life so far!
