Description
In Sofa King by Meg Selkey, Krishna can’t seem to fit in. Even the girls who are supposed to be her friends are mean to her. She doesn’t dress like them, doesn’t know the right dance moves, and she doesn’t feel welcome in the all-white crowd. Things only get worse when she runs into one of their older, meaner brothers.
Delightfully expressive and keenly observed, Meg captures the inane power struggles between children perfectly in this comic. Anyone who was the odd kid out among their friends will feel a sharp pang in their heart from a wound still a little raw from their childhood. If only we were all so adept at recovering as Krishna is in the comic’s sharp conclusion.
