Description
In The Unofficial Cuckoo’s Nest Study Companion by Luke Healy, Robin Huang is tasked with producing a play based on an obscure novel for the BBC. Her insecurities about the failure of her previous play, the pressures from the production company, and the rebellion of her teenage daughter all lead to great stress in her life. Soon the lives of the book’s author, Robin and her daughter, and the set designer will become more and more intertwined as expectations grow.
Luke builds a complex portrait of the interpersonal relationships between his characters. They are all the main character of their own story, and everyone else is getting in the way. Luke’s use of the comic form is inventive and daring!
