Description
In This Place is a Prison, Alexandra Gallant-Lee (who in addition to being a designer and cartoonist, has a degree in criminology) explores three notable spaces that used to be prisons. The Charles Street Jail in Boston is now a hotel, a former police headquarters and Jail in San Diego is now a shopping plaza, and Alcatraz in San Francisco is now a national park.
What can we learn by how we have treated people who are incarcerated, and how we remember the places where we incarcerated them?
