Description
In Tough Shit, Iona Fox tells the story of her cancer, and her new colostomy bag. Iona learns there are large cultures around both cancer treatment, and colostomy bags, with their own language, a wide variety of communities, and products.
Iona’s storytelling is clear and honest, and actively cuts through the dramatic gravity of many cancer stories. Her cartooning is expressive, joyful, and unique, driving home the idea that this was Iona’s personal experience, and that everyone’s story is their own.
WHILE SUPPLIES LAST: We’re including a free copy of an advanced preview of Iona Fox & Cooper Whittlesey’s comic, New Thing, with each copy of Tough Shit!

I was happy to discover this artist at my local book/GN/minicomic /zine store in Milwaukee. She tells an important story in brief, intimate detail with candor and humor…. I was left with a better understanding of cancer and wishing for additional pages so that I could enjoy more of her story told in beautiful artwork. It is quirky and nuanced and speaks to us in equal parts to the text with her mix of tones and color and facial contortions. She has made a lasting contribution in this unique genre of memoir.
