Lauren Hinds is a cartoonist and bookbinder living in Trinidad and Tobago. She began her career as a freelance illustrator with the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian newspaper and during that time she pursued a three-year diploma in graphic design and a two-year certificate in bookbinding at the John Donaldson Technical Institute in Trinidad (renamed the University of Trinidad and Tobago Creative Campus). After working as a graphic designer and bookbinder for a number of years, she decided to pursue her other passions: drawing and writing comics. She travelled to Vermont to study at the Center for Cartoon Studies and graduated in 2010. She completed her B.A. in English Literature with a Minor in Film Studies (2019) at The University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.
She creates comics that capture the nuances of adolescence through various childhood experiences from both Caribbean and universal perspectives and enjoys developing and experimenting with ideas and stories for her comics in her sketch books. Alongside her comics work, she makes handmade sketch books and journals with each book collection being different.
In November 2024, she received a grant from Koyama Provides to complete two long-form comics, SACHELLE and JEREMY ("Jeremy" was published as a mini comic in 2020 with Paper Rocket Minicomics) including the creation of a third handmade book collection (this collection was completed in September 2025). Updates for her two long form comics are available on her website (blog) or on Instagram.
In 2025, her debut children’s picture book (100 Goats and Granny!) as illustrator with author Atinuke was published by Walker Books (UK) and Candlewick Press (USA).
