Description
Lauren Hinds’ comic Float, shares the story of girlhood as Alyssa makes the transition from secondary school to shaky plans that consist of having sex before she graduates and possibly migrating to New York. Accompanied by her best friend Nadine, they spend a lazy day outdoor near the river. Alyssa’s mental state is revealed as she pretends to ‘float’ while standing on the barrier near the deep river.
Lauren is able to express the feelings of uncertainty in Float a metaphor for Alyssa’s reality through narration and dialogue that is seamless and will connect young girls to sixteen year old Alyssa’s story that is both personal and universal.
