Description
In search of the singers who created their world, the navigator, boat-builder, and object-gatherer are traversing an unpredictable sea. In this, the third and final volume of Marnie Galloway’s wordless series, In The Sounds and Seas we -and they- are immediately thrust into a crushing storm!
Towering waves attack the tiny ship as the three travelers try to stay on course. When the boat-builder is knocked overboard, her friends are forced to mount a rescue, and decide whether to continue on their voyage, give up, or start over.
The most dramatic volume of the series, Marnie pulls no punches in either the story-telling or art department. Full of high-contrast, and lush detailed patterns, many pages vibrate with a tumultuous energy that cuts to the themes of the comic. Marnie plays a lot of visual tricks with the ever-present sea in the story. At times the water looks like mountains, sometimes it looks like fire, and the crashing waves have an oppressive, unbreakable weight to them.
Marnie’s use of repeating patterns and imagery that echos different parts of the story encourages the reader to investigate the story over and over again, through the characters’ joys and sorrows.
