Description

After the dramatic events in issue 7 of The Weight, Melissa Mendes takes a step back and provides a quiet glimpse into Edie’s new life on her grandparents’ farm. Edie’s long day herding and milking cows, collecting eggs, cleaning barns, and going for a swim is punctuated by the birth of a calf, who she names Bud.

This chapter of Melissa’s sprawling comic is based on one of her favorite passages in her grandfather’s memoir, which she reprints in the comic’s notes. It also has many similarities to the first chapter, including a birth, and Melissa’s attention to tiny moments.
