Black Josei Press and Radiator Comics have teamed up for a second year to co-publish the Sun and Sand Comic Anthology, a free collection of comics about South Florida. Co-edited by Jamila Rowser and Neil Brideau, the 2021 edition features 11 new comics by local cartoonists. The anthology was printed by KSY Press in Miami, and was funded by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation through their Knight Arts Challenge Award.
This year’s artists include Noelle Mongcopa, Alex Porcayo, Hannah Gray, Nico Giraldo, Chika Pondexter, Felix Junior, Alex Leshansky, Miguel Yurrita, Katt McCann, Allison C.M., A. B. Fominaya, and Miriam Rae Silver, with a cover by Estrella Vega.
101 copies of Sun and Sand were handed out at the 2021 Miami Book Fair on November 20. Additional copies have been distributed to locations across South Florida during Miami Art Week, December 2 – 5, 2021. Locations include Dale Zine, EXILE Books, Locust Projects, Sweat Records, and Tate’s Comics.
