Spiny Orb Weaver No. 1 is Here!

It’s a real treat to announce that our newest publication, Spiny Orb Weaver No. 1 has arrived at Radiator Comics HQ, and now we can mail copies to you. Spiny Orb Weaver is a comic arts journal we’re producing that highlights South Florida’s relationship to comics. We have three issues planned for this Spring, each one featuring a brand new 12-page comic by a local cartoonist, an interview with the comic’s creator conducted by editor, Neil Brideau, and back up comics and essays by folks who once lived in South Florida.

The first issue features a main comic by Miss Jaws, and a back-up comic essay by Tana Oshima! We hope you enjoy it! Spiny Orb Weaver is funded by The Ellies, Miami’s visual arts award, presented by Oolite Arts!

On Tuesday, February 16, at 8:00pm EST, we’ll be hosting a release event on Zoom. Miss Jaws and Tana Oshima will present their comics, followed by a short conversation. You can register for this event at https://forms.gle/Gp5qmQjv4BHB7r5m9

It’s one of four programs we’re hosting in February (in addition to our social events, like Open Studio and Cartoonist Coffee). You can see our full schedule on our events page!

Introducing Radiator Comics Studio

We are excited to announce the launch of Radiator Comics Studio, a series of online programming and publications to highlight, support, and grow the cartooning community in South Florida.

Our first oline program, Nuts & Bolts, starts June 16. Each session will feature presentations and discussions by local comics writers and artists about how they tackle specific aspects of their cartooning process. Detailed practical explanations of writing, drawing, and publication practices will demystify comics for aspiring cartoonists, and act as a venue for an exchange of techniques among peers.

Nuts & Bolts will be broadcast live on Zoom.
Sessions will be recorded and archived on YouTube.
